Bestsport Will Complete a Multifunctional Complex Next to the O2 arena

october 2, 2017
The company Bestsport, which owns and operates the O2 arena, has signed a contract with the companies Metrostav and SYNER to complete the construction of a multifunctional complex, also called ‘the small arena‘.

This space adjacent to the O2 arena on its southern side is spread over 4 floors, and has a total area of almost 50,000 square meters. Upon completion, there will be up to 24 halls of various sizes available, and the building will serve as a modern multifunctional center for holding large international congresses and corporate events. The largest hall with the capacity of up to 4.5 thousand people will also be used as a space for organizing medium-sized concerts and sports matches.

“Over the past six years, O2 arena has shown its ability to host the world’s greatest musical and sporting events. Now we want to make more use of our experience, and draw in organizers of such events, for which, so far, our capital has been overlooked due to lack of adequate space,” said Robert Schaffer, the chairman and CEO of Bestsport.

“We see the great potential of Prague to attract international events that did not fit in the Czech Republic till now because of their size and requirements. Thanks to the possibility of linking the new complex in completion with the existing O2 arena on all four planned floors, we will gain space for up to 30,000 visitors, with plenty of exhibition space, restaurants of all categories and almost unlimited possibilities for any arrangement of space according to the client’s wishes. The latest international reference, which was the tennis Laver Cup – the event of gigantic size and demands that we have managed without major problems, confirms that we are going in the right direction,” explained Robert Schaffer, and he added: “We believe that beautiful and safe Prague deserves a new type of events, and will have a long-term benefit from the influx of foreign guests.”

The so-called “small arena” was built at the same time as the O2 arena in 2003-2004. The original business plan was to have a hockey training space and other areas of sports and commercial use next to the O2 arena available. However, the construction soon stopped, and the space was preserved in the form of a rough building until today.

Bestsport, the operator of O2 arena – one of the most modern multi-purpose halls in Europe with up to 18,000 seats – is a member of PPF Group. The group invests in diverse industries ranging from banking and financial services through telecommunications, biotechnology, insurance, real estate and agriculture. PPF operates in Europe, Russia, Asia and North America. The Group owns assets of over € 27 billion (as at the date of 31st of December, 2016).
