The famous Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra, two Czech choirs and music by Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore. Film projection and live music

october 5, 2022

20 years since the Czech premiere of the “movie of the century” The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and 6 years since the performance with a live orchestra at the O2 arena, the legend of the ring comes to life again. The combination of a spectacular film projection and live music by Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore performed live by an orchestra and choirs promises an extraordinary experience. The film will be screened in original version with Czech subtitles.

The famous Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra, which celebrates 120 years since its foundation this year, has staged the first part of the cult trilogy Lord of the Rings for the ceremonial launch in New York’s Radio City Hall in February 2023. But this December, Prague will become an important place where the world preview will take place (and will thus support more than 90 excellent musicians from Ukraine).

THE LORD OF THE RINGS – THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING. LVIV NATIONAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA OF UKRAINE. A large mixed adult and children’s choir. December 14, 2022, 7 p.m., O2 universum Prague

Composer Howard Shore brought Tolkien’s literary visions to life with his Academy Award® and Grammy® Award-winning score for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Shore’s score transformed Peter Jackson’s film into a massive symphonic work.

The music of The Lord of the Rings is ranked among the most complex and complete works in the field of film music. It captures not only vast emotions, but also distant views and long journeys, reminiscent of the very construction of Tolkien’s Middle Earth. It mixes the worlds of humans, elves and other beings that either fight with each other, or join forces … but are always shaped according to the sinister will of the One Ring. This unique performance allows the music to carry the weight of the narrative, creating an entirely new and dramatic concert experience.

"One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them…”

For decades, the above words have boosted imagination of more than 100 million readers across the planet. It hast been revealed to readers in 1954, when The Fellowship of the Ring was published, the first part of the impressive and epic trilogy The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

In The Fellowship of the Ring, the young hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits the ring; however, this is no ordinary piece of jewelry. It is THE One Ring, the instrument of absolute power that allows Sauron, the dark lord of Mordor, to rule Middle-earth and enslave its inhabitants. Frodo, along with the Fellowship, which includes his loyal hobbit friends, humans, a wizard, a dwarf and an elf, must carry this Ring across Middle-earth to the heart of Mount Doom, where it was created, to destroy it forever. On this journey, they have to travel deep into the territory Sauron controls and where he gathers his goblin armies. And it is not only the external evil that the Fellowship must fight, but also the internal division and destruction brought about by the influence of the Ring. The future thus depends on the fate of the Fellowship.

It took several decades for film technology to be able to transform Tolkien’s intricate and complex “universe” to the screen. In the end, it was achieved by the visionary, artist, director and screenwriter in one person, Peter Jackson, who filmed the entire trilogy with the help of a huge team (2,400 people) in the beautiful scenery of New Zealand. The film stars Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Sean Bean and Ian Holm with Andy Serkis as Gollum
